Lesley is 60 – Vintage Tea Party.

When Lesley’s daughter Angela contacted me to see if I had availability to style and provide an afternoon tea for her Mum’s 6oth Birthday I was thrilled to see I had the date free. The date was actually only a couple of weeks away so we very quickly messaged back and forward and agreed on a plan. The party was to be a relaxed intimate affair at another of Lesley’s daughter’s, Jacqueline’s home. Her home is a beautiful millhouse in the rural Ayrshire countryside and when I arrived Jacqueline had been out in her garden and along the hedgerows collecting beautiful blossom branches and other foliage to decorate her dining room – Just my kind of thing! On her pale blue front door she had placed a gorgeous daffodil wreath she had made to welcome the guests.Having requested a few pics of the dining room in advance, I set the colour scheme to be pale blue and pastel pink to match Jacqueline’s decor..I used pretty pink Vintage China tea-sets placed onto lace and floral tablecloths and added pretty blue floral Happy Birthday napkins and vintage tea knives. My sister made me a pretty Happy Birthday bunting many years ago from Cath Kidston fabrics and this was also just right for the theme. Along a mirror shelf I placed some little heart jars filled with pretty pink blooms.I baked the scones, pancakes , meringues, mini lemon drizzle cakes, ginger fudge and shot glass desserts at home and ordered freshly made platters of sandwiches and brioche filled rolls from my local baker that I collected on the way to Jacqueline’s.Blue glass bottles and little jars filled with pink flowers were placed on the tables and around the room together with some happy birthday banners and pretty pink pinwheels. I also made a “Lesley is 60” canvas to be placed where Lesley would see it when she arrived. The food was set onto tiered cake stands and I made little personalised menu boards to enable the guests to see what was what. Some little final touches were things like popping the sugar tongs into the vintage bowls of sugar lumps and ensuring the clotted cream was in place for the scones. When I returned to collect my things Jacqueline said the day had been a great success and that her Mum had loved it…she had known she was having a little get together, she just didn’t realise how much planning the girls had been doing in the background to ensure the day was simply special for their Mum.Happy Birthday Lesley! And wishing you many happy returns. Thanks to Angela and her sisters for booking me for this event and to Jacqueline for being so welcoming of me into her home.Much LoveJoanna XX
